I bought a blue-colored orchid at Sprouts and snapped a photo of it in the car on the way home. Turned out to be a great photo!

I did my first run with a partner yesterday around the base of Mt. Rubidoux in Riverside, CA. It had its tough moments, but overall was great, especially after the rain.

Had an itch to buy some stylish running shoes to wear everyday (since my running shoes are ugly, but functional) so I stopped by WSS on the way home from work. These aren’t running shoes, but for $30, they look the part and are comfy as hell.

I absolutely did not want to run this morning, but I couldn’t break my running streak, so I ran a few miles. Every time I don’t feel like running and I do anyway, is when I feel the best, post-run. 🏃

I got the opportunity to buy a cheese grater Mac Pro with macOS El Capitan from 2008 for ~$200, and I’m buying it. I’ve always wanted one, and I can actually use it for the podcast for less than it would cost me to be a (not) modern Mac Mini. I’m pretty stoked about it.

A tart wheat ale made with bananas, coconut, and pineapple. A little too tart for me, but the pineapple and coconut are great and not overpowering. 👍 🍻

First 3 mile run after being down for three days with the stomach flu. It wasn’t hard and I took it a bit easier than usual, but I definitely felt it. Glad I did it. 🏃

Not sure why it took so long to arrive, but I finally got my copy of Pete Souza’s book, Obama: An Intimate Portrait. Absolutely incredible photography.

Coming down from the stomach flu today. It hit me around 1:30am on Wednesday morning and knocked me on my ass. This is my third day off from work (which, by the way, is my second week in my new position) and I’m still a bit naseous, but nowhere near where I was on Wednesday. Ugh.

First day in the service department. Left the house at 7:10am after a 3 mile run and breakfast with my girlfriend. Left last job at 4:45pm and my drive home was 25 minutes. I’m home 45 minutes later than usual. Time gone, door to door went from 12+ hours to <10. Now a 2 mile run.

Follow up commentary: Contrast this with getting up at 3:30am, leaving by 4:10am, eating breakfast on the way to work, driving 1 hour+ on the 91 fwy (sometimes paying tolls in the morning and definitely in the afternoon) to be at work by 5:15am, sleeping in my truck until 6am, off work at 2:30pm, home by 4pm, then running 3-4 miles after work.

This new schedule and job aren’t perfect and come with their own sets of issues, but they fit my current lifestyle very well and allow more personal time, FAR less personal road time, a shorter overall work day, a change of scenery, more time to exercise, and more time with Yvonne and the pets.

Today, I stumbled upon the photo on the left, taken in January 2017. I was shocked when I saw it. If this side-by-side isn’t the best motivation to stay healthy...
